Did you know that the Nebo Museum is a tribute to the pioneers of the past? In the early 1980s, as part of celebrating the Shire’s Centenary in 1983, passionate locals embarked on a journey to collect and preserve historic objects, giving birth to this remarkable museum.
Originally housed in the old Nebo Police Station, today’s Nebo Museum, relocated in 1998, offers a diverse collection that’s a testament to the town’s heritage. You can explore this treasure trove during opening hours or make arrangements with the Nebo office of Isaac Regional Council (next door) for special visits.
One of the museum’s prized possessions is the Mount Britton Collection of paintings. These artworks vividly depict the life of early pioneers, reflecting not only Nebo’s history but also a universal Australian heritage.
The Historic Nebo Museum is currently temporarily closed for renovations, but we can’t wait to see the new look and we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s back up and running.
After your enlightening visit to the Nebo Museum, you’re welcome to explore our very own heritage-listed Nebo Hotel, which also holds its share of captivating stories. And if you’re up for a memorable night under the stars, head to Mt Britton for a unique camping experience.
